A tiny hand-painted ceramic rancho (a traditional round, thatched-roof country home) from Ilobasco, El Salvador, with a miniature nativity scene inside. Lift off the rancho to reveal Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus in the manger, a cow, and a donkey, set on a round base painted with flowers. The back of the rancho has two small windows framed with hand-painted flowers. Many Salvadoran families set up a nacimiento (nativity) each December, and this one is small enough to fit on a shelf, desk, or windowsill.
