Maíz Experience
Saturday, July 11th | 6:00–9:00 PM | Finca Salutierra, Maypearl, TX (Full address provided to guests closer to the event date)
Maíz has carried our family for generations.
It's in the fields we walk, the masa we hand-pat, the meals that bring everyone back to the table. This is more than corn to us — it's a story of land, of resilience, of the elders in our family who turned something so simple into something that sustained us. On July 11th, we're opening our farm and inviting you into that story.
This is an evening rooted in Salvadoran maíz, food, culture, and gathering.
The Experience
We'll start with a walk through Finca Salutierra — through the maíz fields, into the farm garden, and through the traditions that shaped this land. You'll learn about the agricultural process from seed to harvest, harvest maíz alongside us, and hear the stories and customs that make this crop so sacred in Salvadoran culture.
Then, as the sun begins to set, we'll gather for a chef-curated dinner celebrating maíz across borders and traditions — Salvadoran, Mexican, and beyond.
The Menu
Pupusas Traditional hand-made griddle cakes using Salvadoran corn, filled with cheese and Salvadoran beans (vegan option available)
Sopes Thick, fried masa cakes with a raised rim, topped with frijoles de olla, slow-cooked guajillo jackfruit, cotija, and cashew crema (vegan)
Tetelas A pre-Columbian dish from Oaxaca and Puebla — triangular pockets of corn masa filled with refried beans and smoked beef jackfruit, topped with cotija crema and macha salsa (vegan)
On the side Curtido & pickled red onions
Curau de Milho Brazilian corn pudding served with fresh fruit (vegan option available)
